Hi everyone, quick 1st question: Which website startup company does a great job for less? Homestead, 1&1, GoDaddy or something else?.

My 2nd question is: I just got an offer to buy a HostGator I have listed on Sedo and wonder if anyone here has ever sold through them?.

I accepted their offer but wonder if the other party is somehow legally required to follow through... or could they flake out and not buy if they like?.

I only ask as one time I tried to sell a HostGator through Godaddy and the so called "buyer" claimed they made a mistake - so, I never got paid...

Your question was: Which website startup company does a great job for less? Homestead, 1&1, GoDaddy or something else?.

I have received payment for 4 domains sold at Sedo and one is in auction. They pay promptly after the HostGator is transferred out, but there is some delay in communication due to different time zones..

I'm sure one or two people have sold a HostGator through sedo...

Sure the process takes a long time, but since Sedo acts as escrow, things usually work out. Just a gripe about their auctions: From a buyer's standpoint, their auctions are awful: in about 50% of the auctions I have won, the sellers don't complete the transaction (because they feel the price was too low). I simply don't consider Sedo auctions a viable marketplace unless I already know the seller. As a seller, most of my buyer's have come through your mileage may vary. No doubt > Domaining needs better, more reliable marketplaces (where end users might visit otherwise Namepros and dnf are solid)...

I've sold in the past, and everything was ok. It was as a buyer I had more problems, with sellers saying they no longer had the domain.....

Yes, but the transaction is slow. But it OK..........

Just sold my first HostGator through Sedo a couple of days ago, poork.com for $110 and the payment was received in my paypal account within only a few days after the auction close. Seems like I had a very smooth first sale compared to many others...

Yes the other party is legally required to follow through but sometimes they don't and sedo will do nothing about it.

I had a low x,xxx sale accepted but the buyer disappeared.

...so don't count your money just yet - wait till it's in the bank !!.

Good Luck.

I've done some sales at SEDO with no problems. Although one sale took more than a month to complete (it was the buyer registrar's delay) I'm still happy with their service...

I've sold through Sedo, as have many other domainers and developers. The buyer is "supposed" to be bound to their offer, but there are many buyers, unfortunately, that seem to disappear after the seller accepts the offer.

My longest sale took 60 days from first offer to transfer of ownership..

My shortest sale took about two days total...

Yup I have sold a couple of domains at Sedo. It takes about a week or two to conclude the entire transaction. They have improved in speed a lot compared to those days...

Sold one name at sedo. Got paid 4 weeks later...

Thanks for everyone's input. They say it may take 10 business days...yadda yadda... and I think we all know what that means. I may luck out as I called them and they said the people that bought my name have bought with them before and do business on a regular basis... so hopefully mine will go smoothly.

Good to get an idea of what others have experienced though....
