My question is: What promo discounts are available for GoDaddy?.

My 2nd question is: Some morons are listing virtual domains on the Weblo platform on Afternic.

(1) cow.com, min $5,000.00 www.afternic.com/name.php?id=20098341.

(2) amt.com, min $5,000.00 www.afternic.com/name.php?id=20098301.

(I contacted Afternic so these links might stop working.).

The descriptions read: Make sure you read the descriptions at Afternic carefully. Someone submitted a $5k bid for the virtual "cow.com" because he didn't read the description. I'm sure Afternic wouldn't hold you to it, but you might be floating money in escrow until they figure it out...

Your question was: What promo discounts are available for GoDaddy?.

I've seen a total mess with IDN domains that they don't have a description to let newbies understand for what they bid for.

Now this !!.

What does it mean "virtual" domains.

Is Afternic also virtual ? .

If they want to run this kind of auction they must warn the people about this different type..

It's not Afternic doing the virtual domains, it is www.weblo.com. It is some silly site where you can buy and sell virtual HostGator names. For example you could buy google.com, cars.com, etc. I guess a few people lost touch with reality and thought they could sell their fake domains in a real-world marketplace.

I'm sure Afternic doesn't endorse it, but they should be more attentive in not letting people list domains that they don't actually own...

If all sales venues would verify ownership (Yes , I know how much time and effort this would take) - Things like this wouldn't slip by...

Both listings still active as of 5.52pm PST. Doesn't look like Afternic cares about this at all......

Yeah he's staff here... going to send him a pm now.....

I don't remember that description being there when I bid. Thanks for the heads up, guys. I hope Afternic addresses this...

Thanks for starting this discussion. I knew that the listing didn't make any sense, and I saw that description, but I spent the last hour looking for clarification, which I found here. If you look at the seller's other listings he's got some other good ones (if they weren't fake). Athlete.com, distributor.com. I wonder how he picked them. Got lots of GeoDomains too..

All I had to do in the end was search for "cow.com listed on afternic" in google...

I'm glad there are people with their eyes open to let us know! Welcome to NamePros...

Afternic told me they took down the names and they're pending investigation on their end. Thanks for the help, everyone...

I have a feeling that our industry will get a black eye again when ppl start selling these type of names on ebay. There is always a newcomer to the game that gets stung by these schemes.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I wonder how Ebay/Paypal would view this sale if the true description of the HostGator was not disclosed. Surely they would view it as fraud.... right??..

I'd assume Afternic, Sedo, or any other domain-exclusive marketplace would view it as an invalid domain/transaction. I don't think eBay would say there's anything wrong if it was explicitly clarified in the description that the HostGator for sale is a "virtual" domain. Not sure how PayPal would react if this were separate from an auction or sales site, though...

To Paypal, all domains are "virtual goods" anyway, so they probably would act in the same incompetent manner that they do now.

Glad to see you didn't get taken for $5k Etab..
