What is exactly is Ketosis and when should I be in it lol?.

I want to get some testing strips to see...

Don't bother getting testing strips. Medifast puts you in a mild state of ketosis (fat-burning state) that doesn't necessarily show up on the strips. Nutrisystem does not recommend the use of the strips..

You really don't need to worry about ketosis. Just follow the plan guidelines available at Success Tools: Eat Right, and you'll be fine!..

When glycogen stores are depleted, your body turns to burning fat for energy. This is why we limit carbs. It's supposed to protect lean muscle mass, create a greater sense of energy, and limit hunger among other things..

Freya is right about the strips. They're not suggested for a number of reasons including the mild state of ketosis induced by MF, and the fact that results can be affected by the amount of water you drink.

I bought them just out of curiosity and have never registered even the slightest trace of ketosis despite losing an average of more than four pounds a week for months and experiencing all the symptoms of ketosis. If you give them a try, do not be discouraged by results showing no ketosis; it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong...

I have never used the strips. I know I'm in mild ketosis by the decrease in appetite and the funny taste in my mouth and the drop in pounds. Thats enough evidence for me ...

How long did it take everyone to get into ketosis while OP? On day 4 and oh-so-hopeful it'll be soon!..

I think I hit day 2 this time. The taste in my mouth didn't happen until day 5 or so. Day 2 I had headache and felt like crap though...

I'm not sure how long it took me to get into Ketosis, but I managed to totally avoid the headache and sick feeling that most people get.

I explain ketosis by saying that this plan is about losing weight by limiting calories...that is the most important thing. Ketosis isn't the total focus like it is in the Atkins plan. For us, it helps make a low calorie plan easier by keeping you from feeling quite as hungry. Also when you limit your carbs intake, your body doesn't have them to burn for energy, and burns fat instead.

That's not a scientific answer. Science/math...definitely not my specialty! When I was learning to subtract as a little girl in school, I always felt so bad for those three apples that were being taken away from the other five apples. Why didn't anyone want them? Poor apples!..

Hmm...I couldnt tell ya, but I'm on day two an d have a headache and feel lathargic but thats just part detoxing mode....we big girls we can handle this LOL..

The last time I did Medifast (earlier this year ) it took me 4 days. Im on day 3 today and still feel the headaches and still hungry as heck..I'm hoping tomorrow will be better....

I get a headache normally and just feel blech.

I had a headache on Monday night and was grumpy. I just went to bed so that I wouldn't snap at everything or everyone..

Today people were eating cookies in front of me and I didn't feel the need to beat them over the head...

I think a lot of this is individual. I have yet to get the symptoms of ketosis including coming back on plan after being off for a meal. My only symptom is thirst.

No headaches, no fatigue, no withdrawal like symptoms while going into ketosis...

Combination of thyroid medications and fibro. I was lucky to lose at all!..

Yeah... I think that the fact that I have spent 3-4 months at a time on prednisone has influenced my metabolism.

But I am not complaining. I am happy to be losing. I am still exercising a lot (it truly is part of my 'fun' job). I feel tighter, healthier and better. The lack of ketosis symptoms is a good thing...
