Two Monitors and PS?
Hi Everyone,.

I've only been using PS for a short time, but I love it! I know I'm going to stick with it, so I've heard that a lot of you PS users use two monitors. Today is my Birthday and I'm thinking about buying a second monitor and maybe a new tower! I have a few bucks to spend and would love your advice on what to look for in a new tower,(ram/video card) and what are the advantages of two monitors?? I own a 22" Samsung monitor now. I know I don't need a second monitor just yet, but the Birthday cash is burning a hole in my pocket, lol!.

I hope you will help me out. I work hard all week and I want to enjoy my new hobby..

Thank you for your time..

Tim..

Well first Happy Birthday, and second why not treat yourself? Okay as far as computers go there are so many options, as for me I decided to go with dell. Allot of people do not like them but all my stuff is still running 2 years and strong. Now if you are wanting a fast computer that can handle PS CS and other stuff I would go with the XPS line of dell. I have XPS and they are very good..

Next with monitors having two has the advantage with space and screen real estate. Basically you have your image on one screen and you paletes on the other. I would try to get two of the same monitors, so either get another of the same monitor you have or get two new ones from dell..

RaynesWhat came first, the chicken or the egg?..

Raynes,.

Thank you for the feedback. I've never owned a Dell before, so I need to check them out first..

Some other person told me my 22" monitor was not made to edit on?????? He said it's for playing games, lol! PS works great on it, I think..

I'll let you know what I do..

Thank you..

This is not as crazy as it sounds. For photo editing you need colour accuracy and an image which doesn't change contrast as you move your head (a major problem with older/cheaper LCD screens). For games (and also for tv/video) you need high contrast and very fast response..

But I don't know anything about your monitor, I'm just speaking in general...

Hi, two monitors for PS is more important than any RAM or HDD question. Just make very sure that the graphic card(s) are perfectly right for the (resolution of the two flatscreen) monitors you're going to use. I am thinking about 4 monitors now..

More RAM for PS is more important than more CPU speed. I am not sure though if PS can use anything over 2 Gig at all..

And you need heaps of HDD. Not only for all your layered files and raws, also as "secondary memory" for Photoshop. Do use various partitions, one only for Windows, one only for apps, one for data, one only for Win swap file, one for PS swapfile etc.Good luck..

Thank you, now I get it. That makes sense. I'm slowly learning..

I think you'll find that is (how can I put this?...) a minority view. A permanently uncluttered screen is great but there are things that matter more, and if you can't work on one good 20" (yes 20") monitor there's something very wrong. But you can't work without loads of disk space, and you won't want to work on a machine that is made sluggish by lack of RAM...

Hi, I hear what you're saying..

First, can you tell me if this monitor that I own is good for PS? Here is a link to check it out. I love it, but I'm just getting into PS, So this whole color thing is new to me. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1409385,00.asp.

It's a Samsung SyncMaster 213T. I hope the link works..

As for my computer: Sony XP P4 3.20GHZ1GIG of ramHard drive is 250GB I've only used 16GB so far..

Thanks for your help. The monitor cost me around $500.00??, a few years ago..

Based on that review, it should be fine - and contrary to what you have been told, it is *better* suited to Photoshop work than to games..

The most telling quote is this one:.

"Moving images smeared noticeably, however, but this is expected with a 25-ms panel.".

As for my computer: Sony XP P4 3.20GHZ1GIG of ramHard drive is 250GB I've only used 16GB so far..

That's fairly similar to mine. But I'm overdue for an upgrade.....
