I need some help everyone! Saturday is my first restaurant experience since being on Nutrisystem and I really really want to stay as close to plan as possible. We are eating at a New Orleans style place, so I checkd out the menu & I'm confused. If anyone is willing to take a look & give me their 2 cents, I'd love it.

I would do one of three orders..

House salad with tips appetizer, dressing on the side, brought with the dinners..


Filet minon, instead of potatoes, may I have a double order of veggies?.


Jumbo shrimp, instead of the rice, may I have a double order of veggies or a side salad?..

Thanks so much Kate & Thelma! The tilapia and the shrimp maybe are good ideas but w/out the butter sauce, carbs, etc. I didn't plan this place, but it's with good friends of ours we haven't seen in a while & I refuse to not be social and see my friends!.

Do you think it's overboard if I call the restaurant ahead of time & see how flexible they'll be with me?.

Should I do anything differently BEFORE going to the restaurant like maybe scale back on the calories? I already have a big work out planned for that day, so hopefully that will help some......

Drink lots of water. You don't have to call ahead. They will accommodate you, but if they give you a hassle, tell them you have food allergies. Works every time. I would go with the steak, but that's me. If it's 8 oz, eat half.

I would even have a small portion of potatoes as the carb for dinner or ask for a sweet potato and eat the appropriate serving, but definitely go heavy on the water, and don't cut out anything from the meal plan. If you're really concerned, you may want to cut back on your dairy/proteins. For example, instead of 100 calorie boca burger maybe have cottage cheese that is 60 calories, but don't skip..

Make sure to drink plenty of water to get a step ahead of the sodium. Eat like you normally would through the day. You don't want to be starving when you get there. When they bring your entree, move it around on your plate until the portions look appropriate and box the rest as quickly as possible. You can absolutely call ahead of time and explain your situation and see how they can/will handle it. I've said before that restaurants will cater to those with food allergies and we are no differant....we are just allergic to unhealthy foods that make us larger then we would like to be.

One last thing....if you can stand it, I would avoid alcohol all together. Your bound to end up with calories that can't count exactly and at least that is one thing that you can truely control. Sparkling water with lemon perhaps?..

Thanks again guys! I had forgotten about all of the extra sodium, so I will be sure to go super heavy on the water that day & the next too. I need to tell myself to remember WHY I'm there- it's about my friends, not the food. I really appreciate your help & suggestions..

Special-order EVERYthing. Ask for veggies without added butter, and the same with fish or steak (a lot of places dump butter on a steak after it's cooked, not to mention cooking it in lots of butter). Get just balsamic on your salad, or get the dressing on the side and dip your fork in it before each bite rather than pouring it onto the salad or dipping the lettuce in it...

I agree with Jen! Also, as a side note, high cholesterol runs in my family, and one of the highest cholesterol things we LOVE to eat, believe it or not, is shrimp. It's actually on my mom's no-no list, since she was diagnosed with high cholesterol and heart problems. It's not like eating nice lean protein fish. Just a heads up!..

A note on dressing. Since joining Nutrisystem I always ask for dressing on the side and I dip, rather than pouring my dressing. At the end of the meal, it looks like I didn't use any dressing.

I have a whole dressing cup full and I think, wow, if I'd poured, I would have eated the whole cup of dressing, but this way, I got the flavor, and skipped the extra fat!!..
