In response to Jane Clement's problem. I am experiencing the same thing with my 1 3/4 yr old camera. It started about one month ago. Serial #6952305839. Go to Goggle and key in "Canon A70 problems" you will find there are many others. I wrote to Canon (Canada) and they are "unaware" of any problem.
I have cut & pasted all of these comments from various websites to forward to Canon (Canada) along with samples of pictures. I will keep you informed if anything develops...
I have been experiencing the same problem with my Power Shot A70. When I tap on the camera, it usually clears up. I suspect that there is a loose connection somewhere in the camera. I have a friend who is starting to experience something similar with her A75...
Have the same problem with my a70 after 18months of use and abuse - I thought it was just the pure volume of use that was causing it to muck up. Am very dissapointed as now I am 14 months into a world tour, on the other side of the world away from australia and now I have to replace my trusty camera.
I found that giving it a tap (the first time it was out of frustration) cleared the screen of the interference, but now the problem is happening more and more often. I don't want to risk being somewhere unforgettable and having it fail altoghther..... if there is a solution to this prob can anyone let me know? In teh meantime i'm buying another camera and seeing what develops...
I am in the process of sending a huge package of postings from all websites and examples of my photos to Canon (Canada) Toronto and their repair center in Montreal (since this issue doesn't exist accoring to Canon!). I will let all know how this is resolved. Keep those postings coming -..
My 16-month old Canon A70 just won't power up any more. Batteries replaced and terminals cleaned etc. Totally dead. Any similar experiences? I didn't expect to be paying $460 for a disposable camera!! Any suggestions?..
I also had the same problem with my 2 yr old A70. The "interference" went on for about 3 months. As others noticed, I also found that tapping would clear it up (also through frustration). Now the camera has completely crashed. I cannot power it up with batteries or AC connection. My supplier is quoting me $200 to repair it - I am not happy...
What is the serial number located on the bottom of the camera? There may have been a total run of problem units manufactured!..
