I'm interested by buying a large amount of NNN names, and keep them a very long time.

So is it risky like LLL business or I almost canno't have legal disputes with numeric names?.

Well, I wouldn't say it's not possible. There are number business names, 989 Studios comes to mind, the convenience store 711 also. I'm sure there's more, IANAL though so I have no idea if those numbers are trademarks or if someone can sue over them...

Thanks, there is also "888" which is a casino's website.

But did someone had legal issues with a numeric name ?

I would say that they are much safer than letter domains, but personally I would be wary of investing in anything other than .com's and .net's for the long is a pretty decent bet, and possibly .us..

Anything else is not worth the time. Even .org is very iffy if you are looking for any end user sales..

There can be issues, but there aren't many TMed numerics out there. But the same rules would apply...

All domains can have legal disputes..

You have the same risk as owning

If you have the kind of money to buy "a large amount of NNN names," then you should be able to afford a trademark lawyer. That being said, and this is just my layman's opinion, but if the name is "confusingly similar" to the trademark of another company, that company might find it in their interest to try and take the name from you; especially, if it is a NNN.COM. When looking over trademark dispute cases in the Interent, I always find this term: bad faith registration. If you are registering a name to purposely steal customers from another company, you will probably have legal issues. For example, Lee Jeans owning and having a clothing site on it. Obviously, Levi's, the trademark owner of 501 in regards to Jeans, is not going to like it.

I say, you are never paranoid enough.

You should look up the trademarks for each of the numbers that you want,, and find out who might be interested in the property. Then avoid putting anything confusingly similar to their brand online. I randomly looked up the number 111 and found 32 trademarks that include the number. One is HWY111.COM. If I owned, I sure would not put anything about Palm Springs on it.

Simple research might save you some future problems (and a lawyer might help too)...

Here is an example of a trademark for "409" without other text: This is for the famous 409 cleaner. Notice that this has a Mark Drawing Code of "Typed Drawing". Also notice that the domain appears to be owned by a domainer. If you look at the ads on it appears that the domain is advertising products that compete with 409. hmmm... hardly what I would call "safe domaining practice"...
