ACDSee is pretty decent - and reasonably priced. Relatively fast processing. It might be worth checking out...
Can you possibly upgrade your RAM to 2GB?.

As a mac user, you are probably aware that the grpahics tools are somewhat limited. I use Lightroom on a PC with an occasional assist from ACDSee and Photoshop Elements..
Aperture and Lightroom are really organizers, raw developers, and presentation package programs. They are not true editors. Many find them all they need for most photos. However there will be times when you are going to need a true editor for layers and such. so I would budget for a midlevel editor for those times when an editor is required..
For the Mac, I believe, PSE4, CS3, and Gimp (Free but limited features), are pretty much it at the mid level editor and above..
From what I've read, 1 gig of ram isn't going to be enough for a Mac with Aperture, and Lightroom sure likes more ram if it can get it. At least it does on the PC. So if more RAM is not possible, you are going to be stuck at the PSE level, which isn't a bad thing..
It will do pretty much all the stuff you are going to need it to do with the exception of the really high end stuff. Get Scott Kelby's book on PSE, it's great..
STOP Global Stasis! Change is good!.

I also use a mac pro laptop and lightroom. I use a fujifilm camera S9000. Aperture does not support my camera so I went with Lightroom. I only shoot RAW. I believe if you are a good photographer Lightroom will be all you need. It is a developer, but you can correct WB, exposure, brightness, contrast, and crop if need be. You can download it for a 30-day trial.Beth..

Thanks for the comments, everyone.40D and SD550. Oh, and a wife, two kids and a dog. And a MacBook Pro and aniPhone...
I like Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Camera Raw. And max out the ram on the MacBook - check outhttp://www.macsales.com they are Mac specialists and - at least when I upgraded my MacBook Pro a few months ago - they gave rebates on your old ram (You will likely have to get two 1GB cards if you have a 2GB limit and send back the ram that's in your book - if you have the 3GB limit, I'm not sure how that works.).

Even if you can't donate, please help spread the word...
I'm on a PC....
I use Lightroom and PSE5 (PSE4 on a Mac). The combo is excellent..
I do basic tweaks in LR, then export to PSE5, where I do complex things involving selections and layers. Then I import back into LR so that everything will be together..
