I had a domain name with I had a site running on the domain name. About three weeks ago, it disappeared from my Control Panel. I created a support ticket to inform them about the missing domain. They replied and told me that they're looking into it with the "proper authorities".

I've followed up with them at least once a week over the past three weeks and they keep telling me the same thing: "we need more time" and "we're checking with the proper authorities".

What can I do (other than wait)? What are my (viable) options? Has anyone encountered anything similar?.

Thanks in advance...

No, it doesn't resolve. When I check the WHOIS record, it says "No match for".

Just to clarify, it has not expired...

Quite unusual.

The main reason for this to happen would be for example:.

Registrar does not receive payment (or the payment is reversed) so the registrar returns it to the registry..

The user requests that the registrar return it to the registry..

The registry remove the right to own the domain name (for example 1 registry for a ccTLD a couple of years ago removed the right for people to renew 2 char domains as they claimed they allowed it accidentally).

Either way you should have been informed. Did the domain go through any drop process or did it immediately state no match when it stopped resolving?..

I was not informed in any way. I only found out about it when I tried to change the nameservers for the domain name (so it's even possible it happened a little earlier than I found out).

No, it didn't go though any drop process. It just stopped resolving and the WHOIS record showed "No match for"...

Can you provide us with the domain name, a whois archive search may be helpful...

I checked on site and it showing the whois info but with expired domain name info...

@frih: It's not expired; it expires on August 15, 2010...

The underlying Registrar Data:.

Registrar: BIZCN.COM, INC..

Whois Server:

Referral URL: - *.

Status: ok.

Updated Date: 29-jan-2010.

Creation Date: 15-aug-2009.

Expiration Date: 15-aug-2010.

It almost looks like it was transfered to this registrar......

It's a mess. They said something like the registrar with whom my domain was registered (apparently an reseller) surrendered it's registrar accreditation, so my domain was moved to I didn't know it was with a reseller because I was managing the domain name from my account.

Any suggestions on what I can do?..

Yes, demand that Answerable resolve the problem and have the domain name transfered back to Answerable...

Been bugging them for the past 3-4 weeks and I've been getting the same response: "we need more time" and "we're checking with the proper authorities"...

As it shows available and it seems to have been returned to the registry why not just rereg it at a different registrar?.

Fair enough you have lost 6 months of registration but by the sounds of it you will save a lot of hassle...

@Peter: That was the first thing that I tried, but it's not available for registration. It looks like the domain is in limbo...

If I understand this, you acquired the domain through snapnames and bizcn must have been the catcher. In the meanwhile they may have lost their accreditation or their relationship with snapnames was terminated somehow.

Maybe you will have to involve Icann...

If your understanding is correct, I wonder how figures in the whole equation. I never dealt with BizCN; I've always managed the domain name via
