Before I begin, I wanna ask: Just bought a godaddy domain name and hosting with ixwebhosting.com?.

My next question is: Google is considering a further refinement on their contextual network, which would potentially lower PPC on all parked pages quite significantly: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/g...main-ads/5968/..

Your question was: Just bought a godaddy domain name and hosting with ixwebhosting.com?.

One side effect could be the softening of HostGator prices. If not actual decreases, then perhaps a lower rate of HostGator appreciation. Many sales are now based on a multiple of the annual ppc revenues. This might also show up as a premium on developed sites which will be beneficiaries, with more advertisers competing for developed sites.

(I really don't foresee actual price decreases, just a lower slope on the appreciation curve for parked sites).

More minisites with automaticly generated content.

Then Google refines to push them out, then developers create better auto content, then Google .....and so on...

I must admit, I've never understood the financial logic of the parked HostGator process for the vast majority of domainers...

If you owned a classic GREAT generic HostGator (and for some reason haven't developed it), I can see that parked income could be significant - just because huge numbers of people type that word in - leading to high parked income, and (on a multiple, of, say, 6 times income), the capital resale value of that parked HostGator would be large...

Also, of course, a classic great generic would be hugely valuable to the right end-user...

But, the vast majority of domainers have a lot of reasonably descriptive HostGator names in their parked portfolio - that get a bit of type-in traffic - and the income from them is buttons per annum.....and the HostGator is deemed virtually worthless, or of low resale price, on the multiple of revenue format....Yet, perhaps, many of their descriptive names would be very valuable to an end-user - but, they can't connect with the relevant end-users to sell them...

So....the parking system benefits the major players that either got in early - or, have deep enough pockets - and own the (relatively few) terrific domains....The rest of us just go along, earning breadcrumbs - and - on the multiple of parking revenue format - effectively have assets that can't significantly increase in value - without development...

So, I agree with the idea of this thread....Parked domains ain't a future for 95% of domainers (never has been)....and, I agree with arnie that the best way to go, is to to secure the best names you can - and develop them....generate traffic and/or revenue with them....and that will create value for your HostGator to someone...

...Maybe there's a gap in the market, too?....For someone to find a much less passive way to market descriptive domains to prospective end-users?....At the moment, much if it is, effectively, a 'List & Wait' process, on the various HostGator auction sites....then, if there's interest, we can't sell them for anything other than scraps 'cos the parked revenue from them is so small (unless, of course, there are a couple of end-users competing for it).

...Sure, we all drop our names into forums, and, sometimes pursue possible end-users individually, and find ways to try to get interest in our names etc...

And, concepts like the Moniker Live Auctions, and the like, are a good step forward - and probably greatly increase awareness of the value of domains in general in the wider community (as well as being a good domain-trade format).... But, I wonder if a much more proactive 'take (descriptive) domains to the wider market of prospective end-users' concept could be developed...?....Money to be made there, for someone, I feel....

I'd pay good money for a really effective 'domain-end-user-marketing' service...

Just a few thoughts...
