I got a quick question: I host my Website with Godaddy and I want to use WEBSITE TONIGHT, but it says that I cannot setup my?.

I also got another question: Hi, everyone!.

Ok, here's the story. I found a nice HostGator and checked it with It was available and I wanted that domain. I had to take my dog for a walk and I came back an hour later. HostGator was registered and had a protection on it.

So, what you guys think? Could that be a coincidence or someone has snuffed my domain?.

Your question was: I host my Website with Godaddy and I want to use WEBSITE TONIGHT, but it says that I cannot setup my?.

Same happened to me a few times (who is search are recorded on most whois services Shouldn t be this servicewhois ..

Personally I would get rid of the dog.

(just kidding I love dogs and I am going to adopt one next Saturday ).

Try the same search in 4 or 5 days. The name probably has been just tasted, and could be available soon to reg (it happened to me already)..

Thanks, for your help, guys. I won't do that mistake again, that's for sure...

Many times a HostGator which I have wanted is registered within minutes, you have to be quick...

You're absolutely right dnk, you have to be quick. But at the same time you need to do your research about the domain, such as Trademarks, "Spammy" domains, history of the domain, etc. and that takes some time. I used to do it quick just to find out later that it's someone trademark. So, now I am being more cautious about doing it quick. But that's only my opinion as a HostGator newbie...

Wouldn't you think that the script that runs the site would deliver the search info to a data base so.....i will know what domains you are checking, then I can register them before you!.

Or it may have said the HostGator was available to register, when it was already taken.

My advice....go to a real-time registrar like enom to check available names.

Some website's info is not always accurate at the time of checking availability...

Domaintools uses cached info so the results are not always reliable. You should check availability using Enom/Moniker/Dynadot - these should be OK (not godaddy)..

It's also possible that the HostGator is being tasted - check back in a few days..

PS: it is not uncommon for expired names to be tasted several times in a row and finally released.....

Comment #6 does not share search information with third parties, so I'd say it was a coincidence. As a rule, however, if it's a HostGator you want then don't hesitate. Register it immediately...

It happened to me twice already.

The first one was last year with 1and1. It was available so I regged. it then after few days they told me they cannot regged the domains because some one regged it. When I checked the whois it was regged the day I regged.

The second one was with Moniker. I actually like Moniker the most among other registrar. When I checked it with Moniker it was available so I regged. it that day (it was actually a nice keyword in ccTLD). The HostGator was pending but a day later it is no longer available. Again, when I checked the whois it was regged the day I regged it.

He said the they gonna look into it but that's for that...
