I hope they can figure out what went wrong with Big Brown....there must be something wrong. If they can't find something wrong the jockey is in a lot of trouble for pulling him up imho...

Don't blame the jockey. He was taking care of the horse. if he had pushed something serious could have happened. It's better to pull up then to go for it all and loss plus have something bad happen. I was going to register a name but it's good I didn't..

Even if he had taken the triple crown - the HostGator names would still lack any significant value. Those who chanced this, were really in a no-win situation...

My apologies for this questionable joke in advance but...you can always use them for an adult site name..

That is what happened ...

I watched the race with a knowlegeable "horse person" ... he knew exactly what was going on ... and, as he states, so did the jockey IHHO. Had he pushed Big Brown, when he thought he had an opportunity to do so (he had been purposely sitting back and been waiting for his "time" just like at both the Kentucky and Preakness), from a bottom line medical perspective (and given the extra length of the Belmont) ... he would have won the race and yet blown out the cracked hoof immediately after it ended, probably worse and it would have irrepairable cracked upward and the result might have been near to that of the filly coming in second at the Kentucky, again IHHO. It's all so sad, to a large degree!.

In other words, he (the jockey) sacrificed the Triple ... so that B.B. could retire healthy and in peace!.

PS. I wouldn't ever have registered any names, good or bad IMHO..

Good for the jockey.. I have a neighbor that's a former jockey. Plan to see what his thought are when I next see him...

Not to be contentious but Desormeaux did no sacrifice the Triple Crown. It was never his to win.

Big Brown got into the bit at the 3/4 mark but when Kent cranked him to go he did not respond. So, he sat a chilly 4th and at the 9 furlong mark when he tried to fire him again, he knew immediately he had no horse. At that point he was already running fifh, so he galloped him out.

Never went to the whip because he knew they would be last. So, what is best to be last by 10 lengths or beat the horse and get him up to be last by 5?.

Desoremaux did the right thing and the three important groups of people who know that are owners, trainers and jockeys worldwide...

I was very sad he didn't win just like I was sad when Smarty Jones got beat going for it back in 04 I believe. I wish someone would go ahead and win the triple crown just to break the long streak of no triple crown. I believe it could be another 20 years before we see another one...

That's the exact same question I was gonna ask!.

When I saw "Big Brown", I was thinking about something else that comes out big & brown......

Oh, it's a horse, is it, I was a bit "WTF?" for a mo, there...

Split second decisions - I would guess the jockey wanted the win as much as anybody...

This is a very good summary of what happened and being a race fan and horse lover I agree with the jockeys' actions.

However, unless they can find a reason for Big Browns falter millions of spectators worldwide will always question whether or not the jockey did the right thing. Anytime humans have the ability to determine the outcome where $$millions are involved there will always be questions...
