Quick question... I am on a Dukan Diet and doing very good. Any advice to keep me going? Thanks in advance for any comment. Another question... Well, we got talking over on general support about clam chowder. How New England style chowder is made with cream, not tomatoes, and how it's high in fat and such....

In my area of New England we have a high population of Italian fishing families - so as long as it's Italian in nature, tomato based chowder is permitted..

I mentioned this recipe and a few showed interest - so here it is. I haven't done the math, but it's pretty much veggies and protein with a little fat from the oil. So it would count as a partial Dukan Diet full dinner including protein and veggies - you'd have to add a low GI carb. And of course the ever present 'side salad.'.

When you make it, the whole house smells wonderful... enjoy..

Italian Clam Chowder.

2 or 3 onions.

2 or 3 carrots.

1 green pepper.

1 stalk celery.

Garlic.

1 28 oz can tomatoes torn apart including juice.

1 bottle clam broth.

1 tbs sweet basil.

1 tsp oregano.

Some ketchup.

Tsp red pepper flakes.

1 can chopped clams**.

Chop the veggies..

Saute onion, celery in oil until onions are clear..

Add other ingredients (except clams) and simmer until it tastes good*.

Add clams just before serving..

*this is how I got the recipe. For me "until it tastes good" turned out to be about 3 hours..

**if you really want to make it the old fashioned way, grab a pitchfork and bucket and head out to the flats at low tide. Dig a few clams, take them home, soak them in water and corn meal (to clean them), shuck them, boil them, chop them and THEN make the soup. But I prefer the canned...

Good question... I dunno what is the answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Dukan Diet as they probably could assist you..

Sounds yummo, thelma - I think you could actually probably get away with just calling a fairly large serving a protein, a free food, and 2 servings of vegetables! when I'm extra hungry I sometimes have my dinner veggies at snacktime, making asian lettuce wraps or shirataki noodle lo mein etc...

Thanks for posting! Sounds delicious. It's cold and rainy today where I live, so a nice bowl of chowder would hit the spot..

At my local grocery store (Shaw's), the seafood department sometimes carries these plastic containers of cleaned and shucked clams. I think they're littlenecks. They're such a great treat when they have them- I used to enjoy them over linguini but now I'm going to make chow-da!..

That sounds like a wonderful recipe for the slow cooker. I like clam chowder a lot and will have to try this one out. Will razor clams work?..

I'm going to cook this up for my sis the next time we get together Thelma..

Do you have a good gazpacho recipe?..

Sounds so good! Of course, if we did it the "old fashioned way", we could also log plenty of exercise!..

True, but I prefer the treadmill and the grocery store!.

But that's just me!..

Sounds wonderful and the "red Chowder" is known as "Manhattan Style Clam Chowder" and ohhhh so yummy!! The carb that is normally in the original red chowder is diced white potatoes. The red is one of my favorites, I think I like it better then the "New England Style" (white). Thank you for the recipe...

Don't mistake this recipe for Manhattan clam chowder - different animal. The similarity is, of course the tomatoes and clams, but this is a third type..

I'd be kicked off the island if I made Manhattan clam chowder!..
