I got a quick question: How to set up MySQL for godaddy.com users?.

I also got another question: I just stumbled upon a parked HostGator that apparently just expired. It's THE generic HostGator for an emerging market niche, so I'd really like to snag it if I can. The registrar is DomainDiscover. This is from WhoIs:.

Domain created on 22-Nov-2003.

Domain expires on 22-Nov-2007.

Last updated on 23-Nov-2007.

I've not gone after an expired HostGator before. I've been reading up on previous threads and it seems like I should just backorder it from SnapNames. Is this the best approach? Does it make sense to backorder it from multiple dropcatchers, or are you then potentially bidding against yourself?..

Your question was: How to set up MySQL for godaddy.com users?.

The WhoIs data is current. Just re-checked. I thought there was a lengthy holding period of weeks-to-months before an expired name became available? Is that not always true?..

If it's a "Partner" domain, it normally goes to auction right around the Expired date, but it seems each auction house is different.

Again, it never hurts to backorder it the first day you find it and all the auction houses. Snapnames should be able to give you an approx date for Auction...

Don't forget about redemption period - this HostGator will drop in January..

Redemption period... Now that is funny.

Since when have the registrar's and auction houses started playing by the rules.

Example:.

Fure(.)com Expired 10-20-2007! Already 1 full day into auction at NameJet.com!.

That is 1 month after it "expired" so the HostGator is really still in the Expired Status and Never goes to Redemption period, let alone PendingDelete etc...

Someone should contact the original owner and write a letter to NameJet and the Registrar to teach them a lesson...

This is happening with almost all the registrar's that have there own auction house. The HostGator expires, skips the redemption period and goes right to auction. All these registrar's are doing are Renewing the HostGator technically for themselfs and sending it to auction...
