Your question was: How do you register a web page without going through someone like godaddy.com?.
LOL... yeah, it's pretty evil of google to allow that. 's flushed... again, and again, and again...
LOL..... Advertising a URL that doesn't resolve cause it's got "_"..
This isn't the first one I've seen - But I lost track of the others ...
And you All know how cheap "RE" ads are ... The advertiser probably thinks adwords has a terrible return rate right about now.
PS : None of the obvious VALID versions of this HostGator are taken ATM..
Shows that it pays to check that you enter the correct information when filling things out on a web input form..
I can't help but wonder if they're doing it to improve CTR.
People have never seen a HostGator name with _'s - so they might click on it purely out of curiosity.
With googles algo's... you get a higher ad placement, cheaper, if you're able to pull in a nice CTR.
... might be worth running a campaign to test it out...
Thats just the display url, it's where the destination url goes thats important. Having said that Adwords has been tightening up on display urls that dont reflect the true destination..
To be honest I would have at least expected google to check the response code of the URL used for the ad to ensure it doesnt return 404 or worse like this the HostGator is not regged.
They are an accredited registrar as well so would be easy to check a HostGator is valid...
Wow that sucks..
How much does it cost to advertise on Google Adsense?..
BTW - The first time I checked it , The "Clickthrough" link was not resolving at all - But later it was going to another site (nothing even close to the advertised url). Still - Why bother advertising and more or less Branding a HostGator you don't even own ?
Man-o-Man, this is why I double and sometimes tripple check everything that I write or do, that is important and I am spending money on...
Depends on your keywords, you do it here https://adwords.google.com/..
I saw some domaining related ads on my site sometime ago and checked out by typing in those URLs in the browser and none was even registered. I was earning pennies for them though.
So I blocked them all from my adsense..
