My first question is Has anyone tried the Nutrisystem core plan? if so what does it consist of? Looking forward for any answer. Second question.. I just started back on the program after a couple years. I like to eat salads with my Nutrisystem lunches when I am at work. I was thinking about premaking some salads in individual gladware containers to save time. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep these individual salads fresh? I don't like the thought of lettuce getting slimy after a few days.

Good question... I dunno what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I find an useful answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could help you..

I wouldn't make it any earlier than just the night before. Sometimes lettuce is starting to go bad even before you get it home from the store - especially the kind that comes in the bag...

I hear lots of positive things about salad spinners. it takes the water out of the lettuce so it lasts longer..

Here's what I do for my salads. We have 2 fresh produce door to door delivery services here in Kansas City, so I get a box of fresh fruit & produce every other week. I order Romaine Hearts in almost all of my boxes & they come in a 3 pack. I take one heart out, slice it up into thin "strips" of manageable bites, put those in my salad spinner, rinse & spin the heck out of them. The other 2 hearts & the rest of the veggies I get, I store in the Debbie Meyers Green bags (you can get these at Bed, bath & Beyond for $9) until I'm ready to use them. They will last for a really long time in those bags..

The lettuce that I have just washed in my salad spinner stays in the spinner & is stored in my fridge until I prep my salad the night before. I take out the spinner, give it another few spins & then remove the amount of lettuce I need for my salad, keeping the rest in the spinner & back in the fridge. I put the lettuce & the rest of my salad veggies in a Glad Ware bowl & seal it. I measure out my dressing & put that in a smaller sealed bowl. That way my salad stays fresh, there is no water on it & the dressing is separate...

I have cooking gadgets for everything except salads. Sounds like a good excuse to go to Bed Bath and Beyond. I like the salad spinner and fresh bag ideas..

I was off today so I made 3 salads with a small head of leaf lettuce. I chopped up sun dried tomatoes (made without oil), orange sweet pepper, one small slice of avacado, and a teaspoon of green salad olives. I put a spoon full of fancy balsamic vinegar on my lunch salad today. I will have another salad tonight and one tomorrow. I miss the salads that I used to make with cheese and LOTS of olives but that's another story...

I love my salad spinner. And after buying and eating this lettuce today, I am in love with it, too:.


I do pretty much what Apache726 does in regards to storing the chopped lettuce in the salad spinner. Then I just add freshly chopped lettuce as needed throughout the week...

I use the "green" fresh bags...they really do work. I bought mine on HSN...Debbie Meyer brand, but I have seen them at Wal-Mart too (as seen on TV section). Keeps all fruits and veggies fresher way longer. It's something to do with the way the bags are made that absorbs what is given off by the fruit/veggie that makes them go bad...

What works great for me is to put a paper towel in with the lettuce if I open and don't eat all of it. I put the paper towel in there so it has contact with as much lettuce as possible. I then wrap the bag up really tight and put a rubber band around it, and put in the crisper drawer. It stays fresh MUCH longer that way. I also don't get the spring mix lettuce often as it seems to go bad quicker..I usually get the Romaine...
