Your question was: Gorton's Grilled Tilapia for Nutrisystem?.
To make a correction to Robin's post, many people use this as a dairy/protein serving. The substition for a Nutrisystem dinner entree is:.
3 lean protein servings.
1 Low GI serving.
1 Fat serving.
That is for the entree only. You still incorporate the other add-ins according to your plan 1 fat serving, 2-3 vegetable servings, etc..
A lean protein serving is approx 55 calories, 3g of fat or less and a minimum of 7g of protein. Nutrisystem lists 1 oz of fish as a lean protein serving. Not sure how much the fillets weigh, but you could have 3 to 4 oz of fish and be fine (probably 1.5 filets), though if you had two filets, it wouldn't be the end of the world. 160 cals plus 80 for a low GI carb serving, skip one of the dinner fats (assume the 5g of fat between the two filets is one fat serving) and I think you are in line for a Nutrisystem entree..
1/3 cup brown rice (coooked) is a low GI carb serving. There are plenty of other options - check the book or look under Tips & Recipes/Recommended Grocery Foods. I'm a big fan of branching out beyond bread and rolls. Quinoa and cous-cous are two of my favorites and corn on the cob is nice in the summer...
I just had the Gorton's tilapia for dinner. I called Nutrisystem counseling to double check that my instincts were correct. I gave them the nutritional info and the counselor said that two servings of the tilapia based upon that nutritional info would be appropriate. You do add the other things to it such as your veggies and fat. I like peas so I used peas as my carb serving...
I thought a protein was 100 calories, 7 gr protein, 3 or less gr of fat, not 55 calroies. Am I mistaken? I have used the Gorton's as 1 protein...
I often have a dinner of Gorton fish, 1/2 cup brown rice or a small baked yam, my veggies & a salad. I use salsa on the fish...
You have used it as a dairy/protein add-in. When you have the option of either dairy or protein as an add-in, then you can follow the stats above. When your meal planner say "protein" and does not give you the choice of either a "dairy or protein" (not many plans are this way - QVC and flex that I know of), you have to follow the guidelines for a lean protein which are the 55 calorie stats I posted. The lean protein guidelines are what you should be using when you subsitute for a Nutrisystem entree...
Thank you for the clarification! I had no idea that there were 2 different ways for dairy/protein to be used. When you sub your meals with your own food, does any of the other stats change?.
Thanks!..
No. The protein is the only one that changes. Everything else stays the same...
