Your question was: Do mashed potatoes make anyone sick on Nutrisystem?.
I also eat these about once a week (I usually make them into potato pancakes) and have never had this problem. I wonder if there's anything specifically in there that makes your stomach hurt. As with anything, I'd give them another couple of tries..
How do you do w/ lactose? Might be the cheese if you are lactose intolerant. If that is the problem, you can purchase some over the counter tablets to help (you might be able to check w/ your local pharmacist for suggestions)..
I've never had a problem. This is one of my favourite lunches- so versatile! Sometimes I make them into soup, or crab cakes, or potato salad...
Marissa - I also have stomach issues after eating the cheesy potatoes - I think it is because I've developed a sensitivity to MSG and related preservatives. There is something in some powdered cheeses that has the same kind of preservative so that might be what's bothering you...
SusieQ what is your recipe for crab cakes using the potatoes? I am intrigued...
Please do tell us about the crab cakes. I love this entree, I use it often, cold salad, sauteed panckes, as is, But crab cakes, I have not ever thought of or tried!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
We need to hear from you SusieQ don't abandon us now!!!!!!!!!! Jillian..
I hate these potatoes, but still have one left over. I wanna try the salmon cakes with them. I can't bear them solo...
This is a recipe from Christina Gray...Delicious! [I would say if you don't have PolyD, don't worry about it. I think it's just to bump up the fiber. Shouldn't make a difference in the taste].
Bacon Cheddar Potato Pancakes.
1 Nutrisystem potato lunch.
Chicken broth to hydrate potatoes.
1 tbsp poly d.
1 tbsp Oscar Mayer bacon bits.
1 tbsp ff cheddar cheese.
1 tbsp minced onion.
1/4 c egg beaters.
Stir the poly d into the potatoes. Hydrate the potatoes with the hot chicken broth. [Just enough to moisten. Don't forget you will be adding Eggbeaters later, and want this to be a stiff mixture] Stir in the bacon, onion and cheese and mix well. Add in the egg beaters and mix to combine. Preheat a non stick skillet to medium high heat.
I got 3 out of mine, but you can make them what ever size you like. Just dont make them too thick or they won't cook through in the middle.
Counts as your entree + Protein...
Thanks soo much for the tips! I still have one more of these potatoes left. Maybe I can make them into potato cakes....how do you make them?..
Here's the recipe for crab cakes..
Definitely click the link for Cheesy Homestyle Potatoes in my blog. It's one of my favourite meals because you can do so much with it! I've got quite a few recipes there...
These have always been my all time favorite lunch. You can do so much with them. My hubby is always stealing some. He like them too...
I just finished eating (well half eating) the Salmon patties using the potatoes. I was hoping the salmon would mask the taste of the potatoes, but it didn't. The flavor was overpowered by the potatoes. Damn, I love salmon patties too. The recipe only used the potatoes, water & salmon. You think they would be better with egg beaters to help hold them together? When I used to make the regular ones, I would use eggs...
I am thinking the potatoes might be good as vegetable patties. Think I'll experiment tomorrow. Anyone try that before? I am thinking egg beaters, onions, mushrooms and chopped broccoli using olive oil spray. Maybe a little cayenne to liven them up. Entree + protein...
There are several recipes on how to make potato pancakes...
I love these potatoes as pancakes!.
Recommended amount of water.
1/8 cup egg beaters (free food).
Sauteed onions & mushrooms diced or fresh green onion.
Heat up an electric skillet spray with pam & wait till they brown on one side, & flip.
Soooo goood, next month I'm getting like 15.
OP- I'm sorry they hurt your stomach, I've never had that problem with any of the Nutrisystem stuff..
I absolutely hate the homestyle potatoes! I was forcing myself to eat them but I just couldn't do it. I feel the same way about the macaroni & cheese. Does anyone have any tips on how Ican make them taste better? P.S. Trail mix bars are the best!..
When I'm going to have the macaroni and cheese, I'll save a protein from earlier in the day and add 1/4 cup of Kraft shredded cheddar cheese to the macaroni and cheese, mix it up and then nuke it for around 20 seconds to get the cheese all nice and melted and gooey. Actually, you could probably just save 1/2 of a protein from earlier in the day instead of a whole one since 1/4 cup of cheese is only 45 calories...
I love the taters! If you add a little bit of low fat cheese to it it's perfectly cheesy!..
Go to my blog and get my recipe for potato salad using the Cheesy Home Style Potatoes. I think you'll like it...
