I started Nutrisystem Thursday and it is going well. I'm looking forward and identifying hurdles like Easter dinner and my upcoming birthday. Easter - no sweat. But for my birthday we typically go out for a nice dinner to celebrate. Though I'd really like that, I'm wondering if this should be the year I change it up. Poor food choices and having them in excess is what got me here in the first place. Shouldn't I learn to celebrate without it?..

Your question was: Celebrating birthday while on Nutrisystem?.

It really is hard to be going out to eat so soon after starting a new way of eating. You may want to save the meals out for later in this journey when you are better able to judge your portions and know what choices will work for you. If you do decide to go out to eat, be sure that you have researched the restaurant ahead of time and have an eating plan in place before you step inside it. Write it down if you need to, share it with a family member, keep in mind you will need to write down everything you ate in your journal... don't let the smells and excitement of the moment throw you off plan.

You can eat out if you really want to and do your homework, but when starting out eating in is much easier. You will have to decide what will work the best for you.

Wishing you great success with your weight loss journey...

I found it easier to not eat out right when I started. Sunday night ate out and did not stick to plan at all, but did not pig out. Ate out last night, had a salad with chicken (granted it was a greek salad, but still a better choice than my favourite, the Reuben!), had a beer and that was that. Still came close within the range of my calorie count for the day...

Yes, you should learn to celebrate without making poor food choices. That is the end goal of the plan. Goal #1 - lose weight. Goal #2 - learn how to eat healthy..

"So, you can go out to celebrate your birthday, but you can't overeat. Check the back of your planner for eating out tips.

A great way to go out to eat is to look at the menu ahead of time and plan what you will get.

I tend to stick with shrimp or fish. Stay away from sauces and fried and creamy anything. My favorite order is shrimp cocktail with a large salad, dressing on the side. Add a small roll and you are in Nutrisystem compliance!!..

I went out for my birthday and divided everything up. Took most of it home in a take out box. Then, I ate a little bit of it each day until it was gone. I didn't gain weight that week, but didn't lose either. If I had it to do over again, I would still go out. But I think I would've opted for grilled chicken and some veggies.

I may get a lot of disagreement... but on a special night I'm not going to worry about "is this legal" or "how many calories is in this?" One night every few months is not going to in the long run damage your ability to lose weight. However I have never been a binge or emotional eater; I just made too many bad food choices on a regular basis... so I can get right back on the wagon after one night of celebration...

Ditto. As an example. yesterday was Hubby's birthday. I had grilled chicken skewers and steamed broccoli for dinner. For dessert, I ordered him a special SF red velvet birthday cake (his favorite) and did allow myself a small sliver. It was very satisfying. I have found that being on Nutrisystem for so long, my preferred tastes have changed and I'm no longer addicted to fat and sugar like I used to be...

Not only is this an excellent choice, but the "usual" order for my "skinny" friends... After all, it should be about the socializing not just the food.....
