Canon XTi Vs. Nikon D60
Is there much difference between these 2 cameras for the price. I realize the XTi is being phased out. From my questions in the stores, more people lean towards the D60. Also, I've been looking for a D60 and 18-155 package, but can't find it any more. That package was at Costco but no more!.

I do like the LCD preview on the new Canon XSi but it's up there in price. On the flip side, I've seen some great shots off the D40..

Thanks,Mike..

Comparable cameras. I assume you don't have any investment in lenses for either system. In which case, choose the one which feels right in your hand, and on which you like the control scheme more..

The lens you're probably looking at is 18-135. They don't make an 18-155. Try looking at Costco for that. Also Adorama and B&H still carry the D60 18-135 kit..

Cheers, Craig..

Costco only has the 18-55, 55-200 kit. But still a good, solid kit...

Canon XTi has good features, a quite mediocre kit lens and not so good grip.D60 is a dumbed down version of D50, D70 or D80..

Both are very good cameras. For Canon you can pair it with 18-55 mm IS lens while D60 kit lens is OK.VictorBucuresti, Romaniahttp://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/victor_petcu/http://picasaweb.google.com/teodor.nitica/..

Lots of 18-135mm get sold on Ebay for not very much money. You could buy with the 18-55 and sell it on or keep it to use the VR when you need it..

I am trying to decide between the Nikon D60 and the XTI..

I have read almost everything under the sun and it appears that both are almost the same camara. The only difference that I notice while trying both of these was that the canon was significantly faster than the Nikon D60 when the flash was used. Can anyone comment on this? Which of these two camara's has the best flash? which one take better quality pictures? If the flash function is better in the canon are there any features in the D60 that are significantly better than the XTI?... or is the XTI better than the D60 simply based on the fact that they are the same camara but the canon has the better flash?.

Also, at Ritz camara the sales person said that the XTI is being faded out and replaced by the XSI. Has anyone else heard this?.

I have actually already puchased the Nikon D60, however, I have 30 days to return it for the XTI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.lp..

The XTi was replaced in January with XSi and in June with XS..

Canon has more features (exposure bracketing, WB bracketing, more AF points) than Nikon but has a worse lens, no customizable Auto ISO. I would say that the flash of Nikon is very good. I don't know how good Canon is at that..

If you like Nikon D60 stay with it. If you are satisfied with the lens of XTi (I never heard too many people being) and want the extra features (including the compatibility with all primes) you can get Canon XTi.VictorBucuresti, Romaniahttp://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/victor_petcu/http://picasaweb.google.com/teodor.nitica/..

I'd forget the XTi. If you want a Canon in the D60's price range, consider the new XS. It comes with the new, greatly improved IS kit lens..

The D60 is a nice camera. It does have a couple shortcomings which may or may not matter to you. First, it only has 3 AF points. A nuisance since all three are in a horizontal line that can miss your foreground. Second, it can only autofocus with AF-S lenses (or Sigma HSM). All their new lenses are AF-S, but many existing ones are not, such as most primes and some less-expensive zooms...

I'd say wait for the new Canon XS. But, the XTi does feel a bit "short" to hold for me, and I have smaller hands (I am Asian), that's why I got the XSi instead of the XTi. The D60 feels really good, but I was just more of a Canon guy..

Another thing that lots of people talk about is the autofocus thing with the D60 and below, where the primes don't AF. I don't have any problems with that on the Canon system..

I have read reviews from Popular Photography magazine, they rated the D60's menu system really bad, like things are too hard to find. The XSi was really good, so I figure the XTi and XS are the same....

Anyways, I'd wait for the XS to come out and then compare the two...

Consider a used D50 like I got...it has the AF drive. Or splurge and get the D80.....
