Before I begin, I wanna ask: Cancelled GoDaddy Domain?.

My next question is: I'm finally going to do my bit into making the internet a more resourceful & happy place. I bought the .com of the HostGator name I wanted to use...but I want everyone to know that the resources are for free. Do you think it's necessary for me to buy the .org? Would YOU go for the .org (if you already had the .com)?.

Thanks!..

Your question was: Cancelled GoDaddy Domain?.

Makes a lot of sense Filter. In that case I'll just get the .org of the HostGator name...

Basically depends on what keyword it really is as you can see the importance is the seo part, but you can use the .org to mirror the contents...

I can see the argument here, in that there probably isnt much of a need to greedily take up the .ORG version of your domain.

From my point of view, if I'm making a big go at a project I think it is good to have the HostGator that I have in every extension because It actually annoys me, seeing other people using my name in another extension.

Secondly to this, I think that when I have taken up the HostGator in all of the decent extensions, it makes the .COM feel more valuable because all of the other ones are taken.

Its just a case of: - How will you feel about someone else using your name What revenue will you lose from someone else using your HostGator If visitors are more important than revenue, what visitors will you lose.

Crazy Stuff.

If it's for reg fee, I see no harm in regging it. $7 won't kill anyone. I'd say reg the .info too. That'll make it a nice, even $10 at checkout...

Since it's a non-profit project, I really want to advertise it as a non-profit site so I guess having the .org might benefit me in this aspect. It would piss me off slightly if someone had the other extensions of the HostGator name but since it is a non-profit I don't expect to be earning anything and thus I don't really want to have to spend $50 a year for all the other tlds...

If you register a HostGator name, I think it's a reasonable approach to register the .com/.net/.org if available as those are the primary targets of potential competitors. I have registered .com for an existing competitor .org (generic, trademark laws still apply) before, and I appreciate the traffic I get from their advertising...
